Groups

Our congregation is made up of a wide variety of ages, and everyone is welcome to take part in the church activities listed below. Click a heading for further details.

There are House Groups that meet on different days.  It’s a great way to get to know people in the congregation really well and to discuss questions you can’t in the church service.

Friendship Club programme September – December 2024

The Mothers’ Union is a worldwide organisation of 4 million members whose work is fighting poverty, injustice and tackling family issues in 83 countries. Our Berkhamsted branch meets regularly to pray together for our members, those in need and the MU throughout the world. Our companionship is deepened by sharing experiences in our lives.

We also take part in special Eucharists through the year for occasions such as Lent and Lady Day, as well as the annual Wave of Prayer service.

Our invited speakers cover a wide range of topics; we recently enjoyed a practical demonstration of flower arranging and going on pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostella. Our other activities with the congregations of St Peter’s and All Saints include a summer fundraising lunch, the Mothering Sunday project, our Christmas Travelling Cribs, and members attend diocesan and national MU events.

New members are always welcome.

We generally meet on the third Tuesday in the month at 2.30 pm and have our monthly prayer meeting on the fourth Tuesday at 2.30pm.

See the Church Calendar to find out about our next meetings.

We come together to share in a time of quiet when we seek to “Be still and know that I am God.” We begin with a time of preparation.  We consciously put away the concerns and worries of the day.  We light a candle remembering that Jesus is the light of the world.  Then we may have just one reading followed by silence, but usually we have several readings often from the Bible but we use other sources too at intervals of about 10 minutes. We end with some music to help us to come out of the silence, and say The Grace to each other. Do come and join us.

We usually meet on Wednesday at 11.30 am but if several people wanted another day it could be easily arranged.

Not meeting at present, but contact Ruth Treves Brown 01442 863268 if interested.

Our part-time occasional Choir gets together for special services in the Church calendar such as Christmas and Easter

We have all sorts of activities groups for babies, toddlers, children and teenagers:

  • Coffee, Chat and Play (replacing the former Chuckles Toddler Group) for babies, toddlers and parents
  • Explorers for 3-12-year-olds.
  • Messy Church – a monthly service for adults and young people

Occasionally, we organise a Country Walk, meeting at about 10.15am and walking 3 to 4 miles, (usually in a circuit), with lunch at a chosen pub or restaurant at about 12.30pm.  Those unable to join the walk are welcome to meet us for lunch.

Activities include a monthly lunch (normally on the 3rd Wednesday) at a nearby pub.

Linda Morgan runs a weekly prayer meeting on Wednesday mornings from 10.30 to 11.00.at the Open Door, 360-364 High Street (opposite VAH at the bottom of Cross Oak Road).

This is not affiliated to any denomination, but has arisen from Linda’s desire to support The Way Inn Christian Centre Trust of which she is a trustee.

“We pray in silence or out loud for anything on our hearts and always for our town and the people in it.”
